Why Stay in a Boring Hotel? 3 Unique Iowa Hotels

Iowa’s small towns are home to some remarkably interesting hotels, places where their communities have gathered for generations, places where the famous and the humble have chosen to spend the night and places that help define the unique culture found in each town.

Visiting some of these towns would not be complete without an overnight stay and a chance to fully embrace the warmth and hospitality that Iowa has to offer.

Let’s start in the Norwegian community of Decorah, where the Hotel Winneshiek has welcomed guests since 1905. Some of them have been really famous.

In Greenfield, where the movie “Cold Turkey” was shot in the 1960s, the owners of the Hotel Greenfield have a unique pride in their town and their hotel.

The Hotel Grinnell began its life as a junior high school in the 1920s, but now it continues to educate and entertain visitors to the central Iowa community as one of the region’s most popular gathering spots and live theatre performance venues.
