Early October. School days are falling into a routine, leaves are falling from the trees, and beautiful weekends are stretching before you, just waiting for the perfect road trip. We’ve got just the thing for you in the Ames Area Studio Tour!
Join us Saturday, October 8 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Sunday, October 9 (noon to 4 p.m.) for two days of a rare behind-the-scenes look of where art comes from. Participating artists of all kinds – jewelry makers, woodworkers, painters, potters, textile artists, even bicycle makers, actors, and radio personalities – will open their doors to demonstrate their craft, share techniques, and discuss what inspires their work. Come in, ask questions, and, if you’re lucky, find that perfect piece of art to add to your collection.
Saturday evening, visit Alluvial Brewing Co. [3715 West 190th St., Ames] from 6 to 9 p.m. The beautiful country setting, complete with light hors d’oeuvres, drink, and entertainment will be the perfect way to end the day, while offering a chance to chat with the Studio Tour artists a little longer.
Sleep in a bit on Sunday, then, starting at noon, continue your tour where you left off.
Did we mention that the event is self-guided? And free?
Visit as many studios as you wish, staying as long as you please at each destination. The artists are ready and willing to share their stories, and nothing would make them happier than you deciding to spend a part of your day with them!
