Nothing beats a pint of good beer. Especially if that means traveling to Decorah to get some. The town is home to Toppling Goliath Brewing Company, a brewery famed for its world-class beer which has been receiving a lot of attention as it rakes in award after award for brewing excellent beers.
Just this January, Ratebeer, a world-renowned and independent beer-review source, just announced its top 30 beers for the year 2015 and guess what? Two of them are Toppling Goliath brewed. (Namely: King Sue and Mornin’ Delight.) Some of TG’s newly released brews were also awarded.
It's not only Ratebeer that's taking a liking to what Toppling Goliath is brewing. Beeradvocate.com is also ranking seven of Toppling Goliath’s beers in its top 250, four of which are in the top 35. Beeradvocate is a network of independent enthusiasts working together for the promotion and support of craft beer.
Toppling brewmaster Mike Saboe has said, “We’re on this quest to make perfect beer”. Now that’s passion. No wonder people come from all over to grab a growler. Clark Lewey, Toppling Goliath co-founder, shares that beer enthusiasts from all 50 states of the US and 13 countries have partaken in their brews.
Unfortunately, the beer is not available through online or phone orders. Just like water from the fountain of youth, you have to get it from the original, legit source. And it's on a purely “first come, first serve” basis.
To taste Toppling Goliath is a must for beer fanatics the world over. So for those who are ready to taste a pint, here’s how:
- The only states where Toppling Goliath currently taps are Wisconsin and Iowa. For you folks living in neighboring states or the region, you can visit tgbrews.com for the locations of taps and bottled TG beers as well as contact numbers of the establishments selling the suds, so that you can inquire whether or not they've got your favorite in stock.
- If you do have the opportunity to visit the TG tap room, make sure to not be too early (but also not too late). Their hours are from noon – 8PM Sunday through Tuesday, noon – 9PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and noon – 11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.
- For more info, especially regarding what beer they will be serving on the day you’ll be visiting or other FAQs, contact TG on Facebook or visit their official site.
For now, finding Toppling Golliath retailers can be a challenge. But, it seems they're working on a partnership with Brew Hub to increase production. Who knows. One of Iowa’s incredible local beers could be locally available in your neck of the woods soon enough.
