April is a great time to visit Ames and Iowa State University! The weather is beginning to warm up, flowers are starting to bloom, and fun local events are happening. Keep reading for a list of our top five favorite events to attend this month.
Saturday, April 7 | 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Jeff and Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center
Join the Iowa State Block & Bridle Club for a day full of learning about animal agriculture! Bring your kids to this free event to learn all about farm animals. Activities, live animal displays, educational opportunities and food samples will be available. Participants also get a free lunch!
Tuesday, April 10 | 4–5 p.m.
Campanile Room, Iowa State University Memorial Union
Since 1899, the Bells of Iowa State have sounded across campus. Donated by one of the university’s first graduates, they have become an Iowa State University tradition. As part of ISU's Campanile-Carillon Model project, this event will be the first bell casting hosted at Iowa State. The original bell founders, Meeks, Watson & Co. will be on campus working with students and technicians of the Metalcasting Lab. This event will be webcast live here. Prior to the event, campanile tours and a Metalcasting Lab open house will be available at 3 p.m.
Friday, April 13 | 8–11 p.m.
Prairie Moon Winery
Break out your dancing shoes and celebrate your pride at the Pride Block Party! This event is intended for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their allies and is open to all ages. The event is free of charge, however, donations for The Trevor Project are encouraged. The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQIA+ young people ages 13-24. Have fun and support a great cause at the same time!
Saturday, April 14 | Kickoff at 1 p.m.
Jack Trice Stadium
Practice cheering for Cyclone Football a few months early at the Cyclone Gridiron Club Spring Football Game! This inter-squad game pits Cardinal and Gold against each other. After an impressive 2017 season, we’re excited to get a look at the 2018 players! Admission is free.
Sunday, April 22 | 4 p.m.–12 a.m.
Molecular Biology Parking Lot, ISU Campus
Join Iowa State’s Student Union Board for the biggest concert of the season! This outdoor music concert features four big-name artists, including Fetty Wap, Cheat Codes, KYLE and Andreas Moss! Rain or shine, the concert will be held. Tickets are $49 for the general public, with Iowa State students receiving significant discounts. Tickets can be bought online here or in-person at the Maintenance Shop Box Office.
