Are you looking for a special way to spend Valentine’s Day in Sioux City? Whether you’re sporty, foodie, musical, classic, or somewhere in between, Sioux City has great options for romance and fun with your Valentine this February. Here are my top six recommendations for things to do for Valentine’s Day in Sioux City:
Active couples will enjoy celebrating their love by hitting the ice—and snow—at Sioux City’s Cone Park by ice skating and tubing, including late night Snow Glow Tubing on Friday, February 15th. As a bonus for parents, the Sioux City Parks and Rec Department is conveniently hosting a Parents’ Night Out that Friday night at the Long Lines Rec Center, so your kids will be having a blast while you get some time out together alone!
Popcorn & Candy:
Cuddle on the couch with a great movie, your sweetie, and some Jolly Time Popcorn and Palmer’s Candy for a cozy Valentine’s Day at home with serious Sioux City flair. I’ve never had anything from either that wasn’t amazing, but my top picks for people new to the two would be caramel sea salt hearts from the Palmer’s Old Tyme Candy Shoppe and some caramel popcorn hearts from Jolly Time Koated Kernels. I don’t know many people who wouldn’t love to receive that pairing from their valentine!
Dinner & a Movie:
Sioux City has some great restaurants, and for romantic ambiance, I recommend Minerva’s on Hamilton Boulevard, Crave on the banks of the Missouri River, or M's on 4th Street or Table 32, both in downtown Sioux City. For extra regional flavor, get the chislic at Minerva’s—it’s a melt-in-your-mouth, fried steak bite dish that originated in the Siouxland area! Then, after dinner head to the Promenade downtown or the AMC Theatre at the Southern Hills Mall to catch a movie!
If your valentine adores music, this is the event for you! STOMP is coming to the Sioux City Orpheum Theater on Wednesday, February 13th, so get ready to catch the rhythm. STOMP will get your hearts racing with percussive music that might be better described as musical performance art. There’s a reason STOMP has been popular for so many years, and if you haven’t seen it for yourself yet, you’re in for a treat!
Diners & Milkshakes:
Feeling classic? Head to Billy Boy or Tastee for a vintage drive-through experience (splurge for the onion chips, they’re totally worth it.) They've been selling great food to Sioux City residents and visitors since 1962 (Billy Boy) and 1955 (Tastee)! Then, and add milkshakes from Billy Boy for dessert, or cruise together to the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor in LeMars for an unforgettable ice cream treat! If you’re okay with a little melancholy with your romance, read up on “the day the music died,” 60 years ago this February in Iowa. I think Buddy Holly and the other talented artists who died that day would love that their music is continuing to inspire and entertain still today!
Stroll through the Sioux City Art Center to enjoy paintings, photography, sculpture, and more, or come to the Art Center’s Saturday class on February 16th to make your own Picasso faces. Or channel Swayze by signing up for Pickled Palette’s Valentine’s Day pottery wheel throwing class!
Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with a spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, a friend, family, or someone else, there are tons of options in the Sioux City area to make it special and celebrate the special bonds you share with your loved ones. Happy Valentine’s Day!
