Top 4 Iowa Events in the Month of May

Now that warmer weather is officially on the way, the great state of Iowa is gearing up for festival and fair season! Here are the top events happening in the area during the month of May.

1. Pella Tulip Time in Pella, Iowa

This event has already been featured in the much-talked New York Times’ "1000 Places to See Before You Die." Held in the first weekend of the month of May, Pella Tulip Time is one of the top events in the state. It celebrates and focuses on Pella’s Dutch Heritage, which features performances, parades, a Dutch-themed market, flower shows, weed carving demonstrations, and wooden shoe dancers. 2. Orange City Tulip Festival in Orange City, Iowa

A popular event for more than 70 years, and one of Iowa’s longest-running flower festivals, the Orange City Tulip Festival has been recognized as one of the top 20 Iowa events. If you’re a flower and certified tulip lover, this event is for you.

The Orange City Tulip Festival is celebrated every year, on the third weekend of the month of May. This annual event features some of the big names and respected flower shows in the flower industry. There’s also an evening performance of a Broadway play, carnival midway, parades, street dancing, and a variety of Dutch foods and delicacies. 3. DubuqueFest Fine Arts Festival in Dubuque, Iowa

The DubuqueFest Fine Arts Festival is a top-ranked downtown festival, featuring three days of free concerts and performances. The event, which takes place in the middle of the month, also features a huge art show showcasing fine art and fine craft by over 100 artists throughout the state and Midwest region.

The biggest attractions include the very popular Dubuque Old House Enthusiast’s Old Home Tour, a community art project, interactive art for all ages, and free children’s hands-on art activities. 4. North Iowa Band Festival in Mason City, Iowa

One of the top 100 events in North America, the North Iowa Band Festival has been a popular event for over 73 years, featuring a variety of activities and attractions. The event also features the largest free marching band competition in the Midwest region. Aside from the free marching competition, the event also offers three days of wholesome family entertainment, which include a musical parade and a fun carnival in East Park.
