Picture this: sitting on your porch on a fresh, breezy spring and summer night in Northeast Iowa. Put your feet up after a long, hard day at work, watch the fireflies dance, and gaze at the blending colors of the sunset. You know what is missing from this picture? A glass of wine made from one of the four wineries in Clayton County!
Jennings Winery: Located in Strawberry Point, Ed and Tina Jennings have turned their love of wine-making into their own business. They use their Irish heritage to inspire their nine different wines. From the sweet Strawberry Delight to the full bodied Fiain Berry Red, Jennings Winery has something for every palate. My favorite? The Just Peachy has the perfect blend of sweet and tart. Even though they do not have a tasting room, Jennings Wine can be purchased online or at many different locations throughout Northeast Iowa.
Café Rosé: Café Rosé has it all—cantina, winery and guest suites! Owner Rosemary Totman devotes multiple hours every week to tend to her vines and hand-crafting her wine flavors. With unique names such as 8-Second Red, Cherry Bombshell and Cowgirl Boots & Bling, the wines are as luscious as their names! Enjoy a glass (or bottle!) with some of the delicious daily specials or everyday menu items such as the Reuben or Italian beef sandwich.
PromiseLand Winery: Travel the Great River Road to Guttenberg to visit PromiseLand Winery. Spend the day sipping on a glass of wine, browsing through their different shops and devouring one of their delicious pizzas. Not only do they have delicious wines, but their grounds are the perfect place to host your special occasion such as a wedding or bridal shower. Check their calendar for their Live Music Sundays. It’s Simply DiVine!
Eagles Landing Winery: Sip the “Marquette Maid” wines of Eagles Landing Winery in Marquette along the mighty Mississippi River. This family-owned and award-winning winery features unique gifts, beer and wine making supplies, and oh did I mention, FREE wine tasting? Eagles Landing Winery produces 36 unique wines that will satisfy any palate. Their philosophy of “Patience, Patience, Patience” when it comes to making their wine will have you coming back for more, more, more!
