Nestled in southern Grundy County is a place that exudes the small-town Iowa feeling. On any given day, Main Street Conrad boasts locally owned businesses with their doors propped open and smiling faces welcoming you in.
Each year at the beginning of June, however, there is one weekend where that hospitality floods onto the streets for the annual Black Dirt Days Festival. This year, the weekend of June 8th and 9th will be bustling with activities for all ages. Friday evening the festivities kick off with live music from Route 66, face painting, food, live music, and fireworks at 9:30. Saturday kicks off with Dash and Splash, the annual run/walk through town. Then vendors and rides open and the parade makes its route around town beginning at 11:30. There is a classic car show and, and plenty of good food to eat. The weekend's events wind down with live music courtesy of Wheelhouse, a local musical favorite that has played the event for the last two years. While you’re in town, don’t forget to stop at That Place restaurant for your own piece of Hometown Conrad in dessert form- Chocolate Dirt Cake.
Conrad is 12 miles north of Marshalltown just off Highway 14, or about 40 minutes southwest of Waterloo. Join the fun June 8th and 9th, 2018. A complete line up of events and updates for new activities can be found on the Black Dirt Days, Conrad Facebook Page. See you there!
