Switzerland Comes to Clayton County Iowa

How about a weekend getaway to Little Switzerland? And what if it were right here in Clayton County? Northeast Iowa has breathtaking beauty right here in our own Midwest backyard. A peaceful car ride on the River Bluff Scenic Byway is more relaxing than heading to a busy airport! So at least for now, trade in the snow-covered Swiss Alps for green fields, beautiful hills, and rocky bluffs along banks of the Mississippi River.

Little Switzerland Inn Bedand  Breakfast is located on Main Street in McGregor. The historic inn may be more than one hundred years old, but it maintains all of the modern conveniences of today. The Little Switzerland offers three spacious, charmingly decorated residence suites, as well as the experience of the rustic "Sadie’s Log Cabin". Both options provide you with all the comforts of home. Sadie’s Log Cabin adds a touch of the American frontier to Little Switzerland. This is a great place to stay with a group of friends or family. You will have both privacy and proximity to one another with this one-of-a-kind experience. The Alpine Suite offers a private entrance and vertical layout, a kitchen, a full bathroom, a single bed, and a loft with two double beds. The Chalet Suite gives you a spacious living area, a kitchen, a loft for the kids, a private deck, and a master bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. The Rob Roy Suite has a large living room, a dining room that can easily seat ten people, a kitchen that includes a washer and dryer, two bedrooms with half baths, an upper-level balcony, and a screened in porch. The Chalet and Rob Roy Suites can connect for larger groups with a connecting door. Sadie’s Log Cabin is an original log cabin built in 1848 and was moved here. The cabin offers a working fireplace in the living area, a kitchen, beds in the loft sleeping quarters, and a Jacuzzi.

Just across the street is the Mississippi River where tugboats glide past, as they have since 1862 when the inn was built. Treat yourself to something sweet at Sadie's Sweet Shop, and watch the river traffic float on by. Just steps away are many of McGregor's unique shops to browse through at your leisure.

Whether your stay is for night or weeks, you will have everything you need while staying in at Little Switzerland. Come to McGregor. Relax, explore, and experience history on the mighty Mississippi.
