Jon’s Ice Cream Store and Restaurant is a family-run business located in Tiffin, just to the west of Coralville. This summer as throughout many others, it continues to offer frozen yogurt and creamy ice cream of a variety of flavors – the cherry amaretto is definitely a crowd favorite.
In addition to its impressive salad and soup bar, fresh bread, grocery and bakery items, Bread Garden Market boasts mouthwatering gelato. Pistachio, caramel and creamy vanilla are just a few of the available options inside this local hotspot in the heart of Iowa City’s pedestrian mall.
Zombie Burger has invaded Iowa City and will continue to serve up its tasty shakes in both its Coral Ridge Mall and Iowa City locations. Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Human Centipeach or Zombie Joe (with a shot of coffee syrup, naturally) – it’s tough to go wrong with any choice.
We’d be remiss if we failed to mention the infamous pie shake at Hamburg Inn No. 2. It lives up to the restaurant’s tradition of “Comfort Food in a Fifties Time Capsule” with flavors including blueberry, apple, bumbleberry and chocolate pecan. Sharing it is quite optional.
One may be pleasantly surprised that Molly’s Cupcakes also serves homemade ice cream (made right at the bakery). We’re betting that it pairs quite well with a moist cupcake. And you can enjoy both while sitting on a swing seat at the counter, rather than a traditional barstool (bonus points for coolness).
No matter how long you’re in town or what you choose to do, ‘tis the season to savor the flavors of summer. And some of the best are in Iowa City’s Curious Communities.
