Resolve to Travel in Iowa

Do you ever get tired of making the same New Year’s resolution every year? Maybe you want to lose that last ten pounds or you vow to spend more time with the kids? What if this year’s resolution was different? This year resolve to travel!

Here are four fun ideas to get you started:

1.) Enjoy a winter weekend at King’s Pointe Resort in Storm Lake. The facility has an indoor water park as well as a restaurant overlooking the lake. Zip down one of their three indoor water slides, or relax while floating in the lazy river. Don't forget to stop in the restaurant after for some dessert after a fun filled day of swimming.

2.) When it comes to the spring time, no other town does it quite like Pella. During Tulip Time in May, the whole town is brightened with thousands of tulips. Join this Dutch community in celebrating by grabbing a sweet Dutch letter from Jaarsma Bakery. Don't miss the chance to see the Klokkenspel performance that includes characters from Pella's history.

3.) Spend the 4th of July weekend in Osceola at the parade and carnival. I may be biased because I have attended this Independence Day celebration every year since I was a child, but I also know I would never go anywhere else. Kids can catch candy in the parade around the square, ride carnival rides and eat foot-long corn dogs. A local street dance and fireworks (naturally) cap off the festivities.

4.) Take a hike! Stay active year-round by taking the family to Maquoketa Caves State Park in Maquoketa. Walk or crawl through the limestone caves and explore grassland and forests. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty because this adventure will have you exploring parts of a cave that you never thought you could. Go in the fall for spectacular views.
