One of Ottumwa’s unknown characteristics is the city’s cultural diversity. A walk down Main St., a trip to the grocery store, or any city event showcases the numerous communities from around the world that call Ottumwa home.
Perhaps the best reflection of this cultural diversity is the city’s dining options. Ottumwa is home to almost a dozen Mexican restaurants, serving some of the finest authentic Mexican and Latin American cuisine in the Midwest. This includes Mimis Taqueria and Bakery, which was voted as having the best tacos in Iowa. Visitors can also sample Greek food, scratch-made Pilipino treats, Asian delicacies, and even visit an African grocery store.
There are also classic American treats such as award-winning barbeque, the world famous Canteen, brewpubs, soft serve, and some of the best bagels this side of New York City.
Ottumwa is excited to be a part of Main Street Iowa’s 2nd Annual Restaurant Week promotion (Sept.14-23) with Travel Iowa. Our restaurants have really rolled out the red carpet - this is a fantastic opportunity to explore restaurants in Ottumwa’s backyard (us!) and across the state.
Participating restaurants will have specials going all week long! Pick up your passport at one of the participating locations. Get as many passport stamps as you can during the week--those with the most stamps will get entered into a drawing for prizes!
Visit the Facebook event page for more information.
