Old Railway Transformed Into Pony Hollow Trail in Elkader

Are you itching to get out and hit the trails? Head to scenic Clayton County to Pony Hollow Trail in Elkader to get fresh spring air and explore the countryside. The Pony Hollow Trail extends four miles in the tree and wetland area. Explore at your own pace while you walk, jog, run, bike, or horseback ride.

This area of Clayton County started out as a woodland area surrounding the town of Elkader. The trail was once an old railway that was lime-chipped in 2005. Elkader is nestled along the rocky bluffs next to the Turkey River. Come to City Park to head out on the trail. Whatever method you choose to explore Pony Hollow, you're sure to enjoy some of nature's most scenic sights.

Just picture it. A breeze blows and it fills your lungs with fresh air. You hear the chipped limestone under your feet. The birds chirp as you go by. As you stroll, feel the peace and enjoy the beauty of nature the surrounds you.

As you continue along on the trail, keep watch for three posts that have information about the history of Pony Hollow Trail. It's provided by the Clayton County Conservation team. Read about the history of the old railway being transformed into a beautiful nature trail of today. It is nice to see how a community has turned something old into something new for everyone’s benefit.

Come to Elkader to enjoy City Park and the Pony Hollow Trail.
