March Madness In Ames

March Madness has begun, and we can’t wait to see the Iowa State University Cyclones dominate at the Big 12 Tournament. The games will take place in Kansas City, Missouri; but that doesn’t mean you have to go there to feel Hilton Magic! Make it a stay-cation and celebrate March Madness in Ames! We’ve come up with eleven ways you can show your school spirit without having to travel.

First, you’re going to need to deck out in your best cardinal and gold apparel. Stop by the Hy-Vee Drugstore on Main Street, which has a wonderful and unique assortment of cyclone gear to choose from. They even have foam fingers, scarves, and other accessories that are perfect for the occasion.

Barefoot Campus Outfitters is one of the newest additions to the Campustown area. They were recently selected as a top 3 finalist in the 2016 student choice category of “Best Place to Buy ISU Gear.” A study conducted by the Iowa State Daily Student Choice and was voted on by ISU students, staff, and Ames residents.

Head over to the ISU Bookstore, inside the Memorial Union, and find a great selection of Cyclone gear. From sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, and so much more you’ll have no problem finding something for the big weekend.

Another great spot is Campustown Spirits which is also located in Campustown. Browse through their selection of stylish clothing designs and accessories perfect for any Cyclone event.

Want something personalized? Check out Dogtown University where you can find specialized Iowa State apparel. They also offer custom screen printing and embroidery!

Once you have all of your gear, head over to any of these great dining areas where you can enjoy delicious food and watch the game!

Wallaby’s, a contemporary sports-themed bar and grill is located in the Somerset area and features 34 different T.V.’s to watch the game. If it’s nice out, hang out on their rooftop and enjoy American eats, draft beer, & cocktails.

Brick City Grill, one of Ames’ newest sports bars, also located in the Somerset area, features the award winning “Best Burger in Iowa!” Brick City Grill provides a warm atmosphere with a diverse menu so you can enjoy some delicious food while cheering on our favorite team. Go Cyclones!

Hy-Vee Market Grille is located inside the West Ames Hy-Vee and is a great place to enjoy a chef inspired menu as you watch the game. You can also enjoy a drink from the bar which features more than 65 craft beers and an extensive wine list.

Craving pizza and beer or maybe a warm sandwich and some cold pop? The Other Place has you covered with a diverse selection of pizza, hot sandwiches, wraps, salads, pastas, appetizers and lots of T.V.’s!

Welch Ave Station has been an Ames favorite for over 30 years! You can easily watch the game from their 60, 73 & 82 inch T.V.’s and enjoy a full service bar featuring unique craft beers and reasonably priced drinks. If you’re getting hungry, you can order some pizza, hot sandwiches, or more from Pizza Pit which is located right above Welch Ave Station. They can even deliver the food right to your table!

These are just a few spots where you can find cardinal and gold apparel and enjoy great eats while cheering on the Cyclones. For a full list of things to DO, EAT, SHOP, and STAY in Ames, visit
