Iowa's Top 5 May Events

Spring has (finally) sprung and it's time to get out and enjoy Iowa! Check out the top 5 Iowa events for the month of May.

1. Tulip Time Festival, Pella (May 3-5)

A celebration of the town's Dutch heritage includes afternoon and evening lighted parades, street scrubbing, Dutch dancing, a craft market, tours of the Historical Village, Dutch delicacies and, of course, tulips.

2. Chalk the Walk, Mount Vernon (May 5-6)

More than 500 artists use a downtown city street as a canvas and create stunning works of art with more than a half-ton of chalk. The event, Iowa's largest Madonnari Festival, is based on an original art form that began in Italy in the 16th century.

3. Steve Martin and Martin Short, Sioux City (May 19)

Legendary comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short recall their iconic careers, creative influences and most memorable encounters through a unique blend of stand-up, musical numbers and conversations.

4. North Iowa Band Festival, Mason City (May 24-28)

The largest free marching band competition in the Midwest marks 80 years with a "Totally 80s" theme. The event includes a carnival, free music, kids' activities and food vendors.

5. Boone River Valley Festival, Boone County (May 25-28)

Fifteen different events and activities across Boone County spotlight the county's best camping, fishing, hiking and scenery. Entertainment includes LOCASH, John Michael Montgomery, High Valley and Tyler Richton & the High Bank Boys.

Can't make it to any of these? No problem! See our complete list of Iowa events here!
