Last fall, I was very lucky to have attended Oktoberfest in Iowa City. Oktoberfest is really fun and everyone can enjoy the events. You will find the polka music thoroughly entertaining. The German festival has tons of traditional games, attires, and many more events for the whole family.
Kids can enjoy themselves and with different crafts conducted by Iowa Children’s museum. Sodafest is specifically for kids, with games like basketball and football. They can dance off to the traditional music or just slide through the humungous slide. When you are there with family, sodafest is the place to be for the kids. Last time around, taking part in the football toss or basketball shootout was fun for my family and me.
This year, kids, who are coming for the Oktoberfest, can do more as they are calling all children and folks to decorate their wagons and strollers to match the Oktoberfest parade theme, “The Magic of Autumn”. Sodafest is for all ages and is pretty amazing. Sodafest is a fun filled day of activities, fun, crafts and lots of great sodas for the families!
The Northside Oktoberfest has enjoyable games for adults, including keg bowling, beer slide, yodeling, Munich bar wench challenge, and Hammerschlagen. I enjoyed playing keg bowling and Hammerschlagen games last year. People, who like beer, will be thrilled to enjoy events like “Brewest Kicks” and games like Sam Adams Stein Hoist (Raise your Beer), Beer slide and Munich Bar Wench Challenge. The collection of traditional beers is large and Oktoberfest provides ample opportunity for tasting them all. Remember to buy the tickets in advance to avoid the rush at the gates.
This year, the Northside Iowa City marketplace businesses are hosting a pre-Oktoberfest (Blocktoberfest) event on Friday, September 26, 2014.
So, mark the dates for 2014 – September 26th and 27th. Enjoy!
