One celebration will follow another in Iowa City on New Year’s weekend. You’ll find simple activities the kids will love as well as more sophisticated options for adults in the evening. Thinking about taking a short trip for a fun and different way to bring in 2017? Below is a sampling of how folks here will be celebrating - it's safe to say they'd enjoy a few others joining them.
.) Youngsters and their parents alike will have a blast at the North Liberty Community Library’s Noon-Year’s Eve Party starting at 11:30 am. There will be crafts, snacks, and dancing, plus a balloon drop at noon – all completely free!
.) On the morning of New Year’s Eve, round everyone up for to watch The Secret Life of Pets at FilmScene in this intimate theater, free for kids and only $5 for adults. Be sure to get all of your movie snacks before the film starts!
.) The Iowa Children’s Museum is also hosting a Noon Year’s Eve Celebration included with daily admission where all can create their very own party hat and noisemaker. It culminates in a big countdown and balloon drop at noon.
.) Stop by the Coralville Public Library between noon and 2 pm to craft a New Year’s crown during the New Year’s Make & Take. While you’re there, start your 2017 reading list! This City of Literature loves its libraries.
.) For the evening night out, splurge on Pullman Bar & Diner’s Prohibition Style Dinner. Staff will be dressed to the nines in 1920’s attire and serve a full seven-course meal with drink pairings. (Seating is limited.)
.) If you’re feeling reminiscent of past New Year’s Eves, head to Cedar Ridge Winery & Distillery’s Decades Party featuring a gourmet buffet of decade-themed appetizers, wine, desserts and live music. Prizes will be awarded throughout the evening for the best dressed of favorite decades. And yes, it's safe to pull out that go-to dance move during this throw-back event.
