The only thing that can top a combination of a hot, hearty chili bowl beside a sweet sticky cinnamon roll? It's a chili burger on a cinnamon roll bun. And who serves it better than Iowa’s very own Boulder Tap House? The restaurant has chosen the mouth-watering dish for its January burger of the month. Food aficionados should come and experience the authentic chili burger on a cinnamon roll bun at the Boulder Tap House in Ames.
The assistant general manager, Lindsay Galvin, 32 said that the idea was conceived as a collaborative effort between the kitchen staff and assistant kitchen manager, John Cook. “We all grew up with that combination,” she said.
The burger is cooked on a flattop and served with homemade black bean chili and a blend of jack cheese and shredded Colby, sandwiched inside a cinnamon roll. The 6-ounce burger can be upgraded to an 8-ounce burger for an additional $1. The burger comes with an additional choice of fries, coleslaw, or Tap House Potatoes (crispy spiral chips). The dish will be on the menu until the end of the month.
The restaurant does not claim to be the first to come up with the quintessentially-Iowa food pairing, but it guarantees that it won’t be the last time it pairs such powerful flavors.
The chili burger is a January specialty, but the restaurant sports a sizeable menu of lip-smacking specialty burgers, stuffed burgers, and build-your-own burgers. Moreover, the appetizers, including bone-in and boneless wings, taco platters, soups, salads, specialty sandwiches, and shakes, are sure to satisfy.
Boulder Tap House has something for everyone. A variety of 50 beers available during tap and happy hour will most definitely please the beer drinker in you. Not to mention, specials are available from Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m., and late night, Monday-Sunday from 9-11 p.m.
