Crisp, cooler weather (we hope!) makes for great outdoor events! Check out these September events across the state.
Team of Dreams, Dyersville (Sept. 2) Held at the Field of Dreams Movie Site, the famous Ghost Players emerge from the corn to entertain and baseball legends like Ozzie Smith, Wade Boggs, Mark Grace and Cal Ripken, Jr., play in a celebrity softball game. The day concludes with a showing of Field of Dreams in the outfield where it was filmed.
Bee & Butterfly Festival, Okoboji (Sept. 7) The Dickinson County Conservation Board's largest event focuses on their favorite pollinators - bees and butterflies. The day's events include educational sessions, monarch tagging, crafts and a pollinator-centric puppet show.
Creston/Southwest Iowa Hot Air Balloon Days, Creston (Sept. 14-16) More than 40 balloons participate in races throughout the weekend. In addition, there is a parade, marching band contest, arts and crafts fair, food booths and balloon night glow.
Applefest at Living History Farms, Urbandale (Sept. 22) The 1875 town of Walnut Hill celebrates fall with hands-on activities including stirring apple butter, cranking a cider press, playing apple bowling, cooking demonstrations and bobbing for apples.
Pancake Day, Centerville (Sept. 29) The 70th anniversary festival features all-you-can-eat free pancakes, an hour-long parade of floats and marching bands, free entertainment and a Queen pageant.
