October in Iowa means bacon, pumpkins, apples, and spooky attractions. Check out these five events happening across the state this Fall!
Dubuque Area Baconfest, Dubuque, (Oct. 4) This unique bacon-themed evening features taste-testing and voting on the best bacon dishes from area restaurants, grocery stores, BBQ pits and caterers. Local chefs from the finest local restaurants prepare and serve samples starring bacon and compete for best appetizer, best main dish and best dessert. Tri-state mixologists and brewers quench thirsts with refreshing bacon-based and bacon-inspired cocktails and brews while competing for the best beverage.
Anamosa Pumpkinfest and Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off, Anamosa, (Oct. 6-7) The 30th annual event includes one of Eastern Iowa’s biggest parades, pumpkin carving exhibits, dozens of craft and food vendors, kids’ games, a pumpkin roll and a hay bale toss.
Halloweenapalooza 2018, Ottumwa, (Oct. 12-13) Iowa’s only horror film showcase created by horror filmmakers for horror fans features vendors, costume contests, live music, a Zombie Walk and more. Nancy Kyes (Halloween 1, 2, & 3, The Fog and The Twilight Zone) and Kathleen Kinmont (Halloween 4, Bride of the Re-Animator and Baywatch) will sign autographs and participate in Q&A sessions.
Small's Fall Fest, Mondamin, (Oct. 14) In addition to apple or pumpkin picking, the day's lineup includes hayrack rides, a bounce house, pie eating contests, kettle corn, face painting and live music.
Mysteries of the Castle, Des Moines, (Oct. 27) A spooktacular family-friendly Halloween party that encourages children to come in costume and enjoy interactive and craft activities, science experiments, a museum scavenger hunt, storytelling, live children's entertainment and trick-or-treating.
