Yes, Adventureland Theme Park, located in Altoona, part of the West Des Moines Metropolitan, is having its first annual Oktoberfest. Mark your calendars now for Saturday, October 3, 2015, and make plans to be there. Adventureland boasts more than 100 attractions, rides and shows. The average temperatures in October in Des Moines are perfect for a light jacket. Leaves are beginning to reach peak color saturation by the first of October. The staff at Adventureland believes that October 3rd will be successful and plan to continue Oktoberfest year after year.
Operation Hours, Stipulations and Admission Fee: The theme park will be open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. All guests must be 21 years of age or older to be admitted on that day. A valid id will be required for admission. Admission ticket for the day is a super value at $10 per guest. There is no gate charge for season pass holders. In addition to the low admission price for the day, parking will be free.
Souvenir Mugs and Food: Awesome German beer and delicious foods will be served in the park. Guests may purchase a souvenir mug for $12. Additional refills will be $5 that day with mug purchase. Baru 66, Bistro Montage, Blue Tomato and Strudl Haus plan to set up gourmet food stands in the park. There will be tasty treats, including corndogs, fried chicken, funnel cakes, ice cream, pizza and more.
Special Entertainment: All guests qualify for a free event photo. Men and women are encouraged to wear a costume and enter the contest for a chance to win $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. Live concerts will be performed by Brian Congdon, Damnit Chandler and The Nadas throughout the day. The awesome Ben Ulin, Magical Master will perform for the delight of park visitors. Caricature artists will be set up in the park. Arcades will be stocked with special adult prizes for the event.
Rides: Many rides will be open for the event. The Carousel located at the front gate is a great first ride for the day. The largest pirate ship in Iowa, the Galleon, will be operating for the event. Park guests may experience a parachute ride aboard the Der Flinger. A spin in the Tea Cups is sure to please adventurous guests. Guests may overlook the park from the top of Adventureland’s traditional Ferris wheel, The Giant Skywheel. The G-Force, located in the Main Street Arcade area is sure to provide a thrill for the adrenaline enthusiasts. The Falling Star, Scrambler, Splash Over and Space Shot will also be operating for Oktoberfest.
