We're gearing up for the holidays! Check out these five events happening across the state this November!
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, West Des Moines (November 2-25) The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents one of the community's most beloved performance traditions for the 18th year. In this holiday classic, a mother struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids, the most inventively awful kids in history. Five shows each weekend.
Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum 10th Anniversary, Waterloo (November 10-15) Veterans receive free admission all week and everyone can visit for free on November 10. Dedicated to honoring all Iowans who served the nation from the Civil War to present, the museum's collection of more than 1900 videotaped oral history interviews is the largest of its kind in the Midwest.
Quad City Arts Festival of Trees Holiday Parade, Davenport (November 17) The largest helium-balloon parade in the Midwest includes balloons towering more than three stories high, live marching bands and floats. Post-parade, people can visit the Festival of Trees with beautifully decorated trees, live entertainment and a North Pole kid's area.
Julefest, Elk Horn (November 23-24) This year marks 40 years for the community's Danish Christmas celebration. The important elements of a Danish Christmas - good food, warm hospitality, flickering candles and other decorations - are all part of the festivities. More than 15 locations will offer one-of-a-kind gifts and Danish delicacies.
Santa Express Trains at the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad, Boone (November 23-25) The popular Santa Express train transports visitors to the North Pole. Along they way, riders hear the story of Santa's Scenic Valley Ride, sing carols and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. Tickets on sale November 1. Rides available weekends through December 16.
