Pack up the family, grab your girlfriends and invite your neighbor - Iowa is full of fun in March! Check out these five events happening across the state!
1. Maple Syrup Festival, Cedar Falls (March 2-3)
The annual Maple Syrup Festival at Hartman Reserve Nature Center features a pancake breakfast served with maple syrup made from Hartman's maple tree sap. Visitors can learn the maple syruping process, gather sap and view educational exhibits.
2. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Coralville (March 8-10)
Follow that rabbit to a delightful, entertaining world of childhood fantasies at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. Alice journeys into a world of talking animals, comic royalty, the Mad Hatter’s frantic tea party, the watch-carrying White Rabbit and talking flowers.
3. Dubuque Symphony Orchestra: on water, Dubuque (March 23-24)
Continuing a series exploring the four elements, the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra "dives" into a musical celebration of rivers, oceans, and fountains. Guest cellist Anthony Arnone will perform a new cello concerto by Cedar Rapids native Michael Daugherty. This piece, whose recent recording garnered three Grammy awards, is inspired by the stories of Ernest Hemingway, and includes water-themed sections entitled “Big Two-Hearted River” and “The Old Man and the Sea.”
4. DSM Book Festival, Des Moines (March 30)
The debut festival will feature nationally-acclaimed authors including Susan Orlean, Nnedi Okorafor and Garth Stein, book club discussions led by featured commentators, hands-on learning activities like flower arranging, wine tasting, children's programming (like a Llama, Llama Red Pajama Party), food, drink and more.
5. Rock'n, Bac'n, Brew'n, Spencer (March 30)
In its fifth year, Rock’n, Bac’n Brew’n at the Clay County Fair & Events Center will again offer sampling of craft beer and bacon specialties. In addition to samples, the Iowa Beer Bus will be back serving pints from your favorite brewery, and food trucks will be on site serving up your pork-tastic favorites. Rock'n music will take the stage for the second half of the evening.
