It was just last week that I got to experience the magic inside Garrison Coffee House in Clarinda. I stepped off the cold street, the frigid air coming off of me like I was some sort of ice queen, but I was instantly melted by the warm welcoming smile of the woman behind the counter. She was helping some local women order their usual drinks and then was quick to help me figure out what mine should be.
I settled on an English Toffee latte, and when I say settle, I really mean scored because this latte was an absolute win. As my frozen soul began to warm again thanks to my sweet, caffeinated drink, I took some time to browse around and was pleasantly surprised. The sitting room went on and on. It was one of the largest coffee shops I’d ever set foot in, but the comfy couches, exposed brick walls and warmly glowing Christmas lights made it feel warm and cozy.
I am not sure if I have the warm and cozy environment of the coffee shop to thank for my experience or the inviting company of the Clarinda locals, but I can say I left that coffee shop happier than I was when I went into it.
If you haven’t ever been to Garrison’s Coffee House or even Clarinda, go. Drive, walk, run, heck, even ride a horse to get there, because this coffee shop during this giving season is not something you want to miss.
