Catch a Live Event or Concert with Iowa Public Television!

No doubt most readers are familiar with Iowa Public Television's excellent local and national television programming.  But did you know that IPTV also sponsors live events for all ages at low or no charge?

I attended one such event as part of the 2016 Fall Festival at IPTV's Des Moines-area Maytag Auditorium (6450 Corporate Drive, Johnston IA). This free event included screenings of PBS specials on Shakespeare and on the making of "Hamilton" the musical, performances by actors from the Des Moines Playhouse and musicians from the Des Moines Community Orchestra, prize giveaways, and a reception. This event was well organized and attended, so I was pleased to recently read about upcoming concerts and other events sponsored by IPTV.

Here are some upcoming events listed on IPTV's website. Note that while many events are free, you must register ahead of time on the website. Some events do charge a fee or contribution as noted on the registration page.

Bob Dorr & The Blue Band The Last Goodbye Encore Concert, Saturday, January 20, at 6 pm at Maytag Auditorium--This is the last chance for fans to experience the Blue Band which has performed around Iowa and the Midwest for 30 years (tickets $20).

Pinkalicious & Peterrific Screening Event, Saturday, February 3, at 9 am at IPTV's studio in Johnston. Fans can watch the premiere show of this new children's show, tour IPTV's Kids Clubhouse, and meet hosts Dan Wardell and Abby Brown (free).

Terrace Hill Piano Competition Taping, Saturday, February 10, at 2 pm at IPTV's studio in Johnston. Be a part of the live taping and enjoy performances by three high school students competing in the annual piano competition sponsored by the Terrace Hill Endowment for the Musical Arts (free).

Watch Parties for The Film Lounge Season 2. These two hour-long programs are co-produced by IPTV and divisions of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and feature 10 independent short films made by Iowa filmmakers. Check out the specifics for these three free watch parties which allow viewers to get a sneak peek at the new season and meet some of the filmmakers, cast, and crew.

Decorah on Thursday, February 1 at 7 pm.

Des Moines on Thursday, February 8 at 7 pm.

Davenport on Thursday, February 15 at 5 pm.

Check IPTV's website frequently for new events, and enjoy these educational and entertaining events!

I'm glad IPTV has created this performance venue, and I'm glad this post clued me into it.

Thanks for your response! It is a great venue. I attended the Bob Dorr concert which was filmed for later broadcast, and it was fun to share the excitement of the crowd.
