The Osceola Public Library is Building a Better World this summer and wants YOU and your family to join them. Like all major projects, the library is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony to get started. The summer theme involves building and architecture, so kids are being invited to come and build with them all summer! From pool noodles to cardboard boxes and more, your kids can stir their imagination at the library!
The groundbreaking ceremony will be on May 31st from 4pm-5pm at the Osceola Public Library. This is a great chance to introduce your kids to the library if they have never been, and to get them signed up for all of the great workshops happening this summer.
While there are endless great programs at the library, we will be focusing on some of the special workshops, including what ages would be best suited for them, and whether or not they require advanced registration:
Monday, June 5th: Wigglebot Workshop at 5:30pm. Your kids (ages 3-6) can come and build a wigglebot and enjoy! This event does require registration in advance!
Wednesday, June 7th: Dan Wardell is back again this summer and he he will be presenting two shows for kids, one at 1:30pm and one at 2:30pm. While no advance registration is required, it is requested to only attend one show.
Thursday, June 8th: Teddy Bear Workshop at 3pm. This event is perfect for children ages 2-6 and does require advanced registration.
Friday, June 9th: Rubber Stamping Workshop. Not all of the fun is just for kids! This rubber stamping and paper crafting workshop is geared for those individuals ages 8 through adult. You have to register in advance so get signed up and have a great time crafting with your kids!
Monday, June 12th: Iowa State University Extension's Insect Zoo will be at the library at 10:30am. This presentation will showcase bug buildings and is for kids aged four and older. This even does require advanced registration.
Thursday, June 15th: If your kids love to be in the outdoors, bring them to the Gardening workshop at 2pm. Let them explore the great outdoors through the beauty of gardening. This is perfect for kids aged 4-7 and this workshop does require advanced registration.
Thursday, June 22nd: The Science Center of Iowa will be in town for story hour. The first will be at 9:30am and will focus on the Science Center of Iowa.
Thursday, June 22nd: Do your kids express enthusiasm every time you pass one of the wind turbines in Iowa? If so, why not bring them to the Wind Turbine workshop so they can learn more about it? This workshop is at 3pm and is great for kids between the ages of 8-11. Pre-registration is required.
Friday, June 23rd: The Osceola Public Library will be showing a movie at 2pm. The movie is served with popcorn and water.
Monday, June 26th: Duffy Hudson is doing a live Dr. Seuss performance at the library at 3pm so bring your kids out to see a great performance. Duffy Hudson will be doing a second show that night entitled "Heroes of 9/11" out at Honey Hill Event Center at 7pm. Bring the whole family and have a great night!
Thursday, June 29th: The second story hour will be at 9:30am and will showcase the Hanson Family Performers.
Thursday, July 6th: The third of four Story Hours will be at 9:30am and will have a Mad Science in Iowa theme!
Friday, July 7th: At 2pm, bring your children between the ages of 8-11 to the Electronics Deconstruction Workshop! This workshop requires pre-registration.
Monday, July 10th: Here is a chance for your older kids to get a chance at the Teddy Bear Workshop. This workshop requires advanced registration and is for children ages 7-11. The workshop starts at 3pm.
Thursday, July 13th: Does your little one enjoy sock puppets? Why not bring them to the Pet Sock workshop at 3pm? This for toddlers through 4 years of age and requires advance registration.
Friday, July 14th: At 2pm, your kids can enjoy another movie courtesy of the Osceola Public Library. They receive water and popcorn with the movie.
Thursday, July 20th: The last story hour of the season begins at 9:30am. Bring your kids to enjoy Magician, Keith West!
You can also get your kids into the summer reading program this year. It starts on Thursday, June 1st and ends on Saturday, July 29th. Children from birth through kindergarten can earn prizes when they listen to stories this summer.
