There’s nothing more comforting than a hot, filling breakfast that can also cover your lunch. My best friend and I decided to make a tradition of trying out different brunch spots in and around Des Moines whenever our busy schedule allows. After doing a lot of research for “local” and delicious looking menus, our first stop was Eatery A on Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines.
We immediately took notice of the restaurant’s modern décor with a rustic looking flair. Since it was a beautiful morning, we opted to sit on the patio to dine. We had a really hard time choosing what to order, as it all looked fantastic (bonus: reasonably priced to boot!).
Our waitress recommended the chicken and waffles or the savory bread pudding. Her descriptions were enough for us to make our decisions - bread pudding for my friend and chicken and waffles for me. We also ordered a cold press coffee to get us by, because, well, we have young babies and need all the caffeine we can get!
My chicken and waffles was absolutely divine. Savory but with a touch of sweetness due to the grilled pineapple adorning the fluffy waffles. My friend’s bread pudding was also delicious with a good balance of saltiness from prosciutto and creamy gruyere with béchamel sauce and a soft egg.
I would go back to Eatery A every Saturday for brunch, if my schedule allowed. If you’re looking for a local Des Moines brunch experience with a great atmosphere, coffee and swoon-worthy food, hit up Eatery A.
This is the first in a series of posts on the best brunches in and around Des Moines.
