Bluegrass music has been part of America since the 1600’s. The invention of the phonograph and the onset radio brought mountain music into homes all over America, setting the stage for the beginnings of Bluegrass.

At the Backbone Bluegrass Festival, you can enjoy wonderful performances by seven talented groups of musicians and singers, along with great food and a JAM Camp, as well as Saturday morning workshops.

Fine Line Bluegrass: These folks play traditional, contemporary, and original Bluegrass music.

Bluegrass Blondies:  2017 was an award-winning year for this band!. These talented female performers really put on a great show.

Annie Savage and the Savage Hearts: Prepare for a fantastic tribute to Patsy, Dolly, and the women of classic country and Bluegrass music.

The Kenaston Family Band: This popular Midwest group plays traditional country, Bluegrass, Gospel, and dance music.

The Bob Lewis Family Band Reunion: The festival is thrilled to welcome this band back for the seventh time! The Lewis family band has been performing together since 1989. This talented group has won music and dance awards, made appearances on television, and been part of a PBS series “The Mississippi River of Song.”

Special Consensus: Don't miss this four-person acoustic Bluegrass band! They'll make you feel nostalgic with traditional standards and inspire you with original compositions. Special Consensus has been featured on National Public Radio as well as cable television shows.

The Briggs Family Band These women will blow your mind with their range of Bluegrass, traditional country, Gospel, and whatever else strikes a chord. The love of Bluegrass music started young for these players, while they themselves attended Bluegrass Tuesdays in Indianola.
