If you’re an art aficionado, chances are you’ve heard of First Friday in Iowa City. The event occurs every first Friday of the month and features both local and non-local artists. The University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA) invites the general public to this free event to enjoy art, food, and beverages.
Film Scene, Iowa City’s independent non-profit cinema, has become First Friday’s permanent home. However, the event has been housed by Hotel Vetro, Domby, Stella, Vesta, and The Mansion in past years.
Past art exhibits have included: community art installations, jewelry, photography, prints, calligraphy, sculpture, and 3D work such as costumes.
This Friday, October 7th, First Friday will feature work by ceramic artist Ron Meyers. This international artist has become well known for his loose, whimsical sculptures.
The event begins at 5pm, with free popcorn being provided by the venue. A cash bar will also be on-site.
Can’t make it this Friday? Look for information about the UIMA’s next First Friday event on November 4th.
