Art Exhibit Features a Twist on Local Landscapes

Danielle Clouse Gast’s works are “a modern, fresh approach to the landscape we are familiar with.”

See what that means in her art exhibit running October-December at the Dickinson County Nature Center in Okoboji, and hear the inspiration behind her art at the exhibit opening 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4.

“I hope they find familiar territory but with a fresh perspective,” Clouse Gast said. “Visitors will have a glimpse into my process as I will discuss what landscapes I’m drawn to and what choices I make in the compositions.”

Clouse Gast began painting when she was just a toddler. In fact, the first painting her mother kept was created when Clouse Gast was only three years old.

“Art and art making was always present throughout school, and lucky for me, my dad was our K-12 art teacher at Ruthven-Ayrshire,” she said.

She then went on to study art, receiving an associate’s degree from Iowa Lakes Community College and a bachelor degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.

Now working in the art field, she sees the world in a different way than many people.

“As an artist, I tend to find the beauty in things as they are while also considering what they could be,” she said.

Her colorful landscapes, presented in a new and unique format, are the perfect fit for a place like the Dickinson County Nature Center.

“My love of our local views and colors, shapes and patterns found within nature makes a connection with our surroundings,” Clouse Gast said.

Meet Clouse Gast during her exhibit opening Oct. 4 and enjoy appetizers and wine. She will make an artist presentation at 6 p.m. at the nature center, located at 22785 Nature Center Road in Okoboji.
