Tired of Bacon & Eggs? Get to Humboldt's Backseat Diner!

It's Sunday - my only day off. It's time for breakfast. I'm tired of eggs and bacon and bacon & eggs just aren't going to cut it. I need some variety!

I've found several interesting places to satisfy my cravings within a two-hour radius and the closest one is Backseat Diner in Humboldt. No need to get up early-- breakfast is served all day. You'll want to keep going back because their menu changes seasonally. There will always be more pleasant surprises in store for you. This trip, I had the Apple Crisp Waffle. Waffles are hard enough to find in my neck of the woods, so that makes this very special. Covered with apple pie filling and oatmeal flakes, it's similar to an apple crisp, and topped with whipped cream. Aaaah!

Backseat Diner is really a joy, even if you're not looking for the unique. There's an online menu that includes similar items to those you can find in other restaurants in this area. And still. You'll experience nothing else like this restaurant in the region. Notice music from the 50's & 60's playing. The front of the restaurant narrow with a row of stools at a counter, reminiscent of an old-fashioned diner. The rear section has both tables and booths. The décor is classic 50's and 60's, including some old local newspaper articles framed on the wall along with old vinyl records. They even still have the old phones on the walls of the booths to call in your order, though I doubt if they work. No need. Attentive wait staff will take good care of you.

There is a wide choice of options for breakfast-- including three eggs Benedict-style, and a number of waffle and pancake options. There are burgers and other sandwiches of varied and delicious descriptions. Also on the menu, are ice cream offerings, hot beef sandwiches, and a few full dinner offerings. Backseat Diner is located south of the intersection of Iowa Highway 3 and US 169 on the west side of the road, at 504 N 15th St, Humboldt. From Monday through Saturday, they're open 6:00 AM till 9:00 PM.  Sunday hours are 7:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Enjoy your backseat dining in Humboldt!

I wish someone would write a post on the "village kaleidoscope maker." That would be fulfilling, like apple crisp waffles.
