Grimes Community Complex was built over the course of a twenty-year period beginning in 1940. The center originally housed Grimes' Elementary and Middle School. Beginning summer of 2006, the complex has been under the ownership of Iowa City. Now, they have more space for recreational and community activities, including various facilities like the gym, banquet hall, meeting rooms, park and recreation department offices, and a full-service kitchen.
Scary fun with family:
Grimes Community Complex offers Halloween fest for kids of all ages. Families are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes for the event. During the event, the community center will be decorated with spooky Halloween embellishments, and there will be a “haunted maze” game for toddlers, and for kids aged eight and above. The haunted maze is customized for kids based on their age.
Face painting is also one of the special events during the Halloween fest. Local businesses take active part in this community event to give back to the community, and they offer free candies for children. There will be plenty of trick or treat opportunities during this event.
Local Girl Scouts will have a baking sale during this event. There will also be a mini costume parade for kids just before closing ceremony. The parade is quite famous around the City of Grimes.
Kids aged two and under are free to attend the Halloween fest. A big group of scary volunteers will be there to show the way and help the families throughout the event. Parents are advised to always accompany children during the evening.
Admission fee: $3 per person or maximum of $10 for the entire family.
Event Timings: October 26, 2014 from 5 pm to 8 pm.
