3 Must-See Genealogy Events in Davenport This April

April is a great time to visit Davenport, and a really great time to drop into the Davenport Public Library on Main Street. This year, you'll get the chance to experience some of these great history-preserving events.

Genealogy Night

Sunday, April 22 / 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center, Davenport Public Library.

Celebrate Preservation Week and learn awesome new things this month. The Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center will be holding a variety of genealogy gatherings. First on the list will be the Genealogy Night, an after-hours event. Here, visitors will get the chance to meet and learn from fellow or budding genealogists. The entrance fee is $10 per person. Register by visiting the Special Collections service desk on the library's main floor, or check them out online.

Genealogy Perspective on Captivating Non-Genealogists with Family History Activities

Tuesday, April 24 / 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center, Davenport Public Library.

Lisa Louise Cooke, the owner of the genealogy-focused website Genealogy Gems, will be presenting a series of videos, featuring several that just might captivate non-genealogists. This video-centered event will be co-sponsored by the Scott County Iowa Genealogical Society, a non-profit corporation which hosts activities devoted to the creation and maintenance of genealogical material and family histories.

Preserving Family Heirlooms: Books, Paper, and Photographs

Wednesday, April 25 / 6:00 p.m.

Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center, Davenport Public Library.

Last but not least, the Preserving Family Heirlooms event is actually a workshop that will teach you how to handle and care for family treasures to ensure that they are available for posterity. Visitors are encouraged to bring books, paper, and memorable photographs that they want to preserve.

For more information about the upcoming local events, please visit the Davenport Public Library’s website or call the Special Collections desk (563) 326-7902.
