Quilting, fabrics cross stich, patterns and everything arts and crafts related—Clayton County is your destination!

Plan a ladies weekend out to work on your crafting projects while traveling through the beautiful countryside of Clayton County in Northeast Iowa. Clayton County has three unique shops that will have you swimming through bolts of fabrics for hours on ends.

The BackStitch—Located in historic downtown Elkader, The BackStitch features over 4,000 bolts of fabrics. They also have quilting patterns, books and notions that will have the creative juices flowing. The BackStitch is known for having one of the largest collections of cross stitch graphs, fabrics and fibers in Northeast Iowa! They also offer classes for all ranges of expertise—from beginners to experts.

Suhdron Fabrics—Be ready to brace yourself as you walk into the three story building which features 20,000 bolts of fabrics! (Yes, you read that right!) Also known as “The Mall,” Suhdron Fabrics is located in Monona which is the “Garden City of Iowa.” People from all over the country travel to Suhdron’s to browse their vibrant fabrics, sewing supplies and to visit with their expert staff. With over 45 years of being in business, Suhdron Fabrics should be on the bucket list of every quilter!

Quilted Strawberry: Step inside a century old building located in Strawberry Point that is the home to Quilted Strawberry—a one stop shop for all your fabric needs. Do you have an old drawer of t-shirts that you just can’t seem to bring yourself to get rid of? Let Quilted Strawberry help you turn your t-shirts into a t-shirt quilt that will help put your memories on display. Owner Marlene Gould has over 30 years’ experience and would love to help spread her knowledge to you.
