Council Bluffs Hosts One of Nation's Largest Grade School Wrestling Dual Tournaments

Passion, technique, heart, encouragement, pride, and training were all on display this month at the Council Bluffs Mid-America Center for one of the largest grade school wrestling dual tournaments in the nation.

The Heartland USA Elementary and Middle School National Folk Style Wrestling Duals attracted thousands April 16th and 17th at the ‘MAC’. Wrestling each day started at 8am with teams from eleven states participating.

Forty-two elementary teams and thirty-two middle school teams brought wrestlers to compete.  Each team, limited to twenty wrestlers, received recognition.

Awards were earned for the top eight teams each in gold, silver, and bronze categories or pools.

This event promoted amateur wrestling starting with elementary youth.  The wrestlers benefitted from proper coaching, education, and competition.  All the organizers, coaches, and athletes performed under the guidelines of USA Wrestling, the governing body for international-style amateur wrestling in the United States.
