Tune in to the Sounds of Summer in Ames: 10 Music Events Not to Miss!

Ames and the surrounding community will resonate with the sounds of music, from traditional band concerts to foot-stompin’ country, from melodies under the stars to a locally flavored eclectic music festival. You’ll soon find yourself and summer to be in perfect harmony!

Ames Municipal Band Concerts  

The Ames Municipal Band performs concerts at Durham Bandshell Park every Thursday evening, beginning at 8 p.m. through the months of June and July. Pack a little picnic of snacks, grab your lawn chairs and blankets and get ready for a relaxing evening with family and friends. Ames on the Half Shell

Durham Bandshell Park will be full of music again on Friday evenings this summer from 5 to 8 p.m. with the popular Ames on the Half Shell concert series. This family-friendly event is the perfect way to get outside and enjoy the summer weather while also enjoying the music. Proceeds from the Ames on the Half Shell go in part to fund community projects sponsored by the Ames Jaycees and in part to support the Ames Park and Recreation Youth Scholarship Program. 4th of July Parade & Festival/Bill Riley Talent Competition

Main Street Cultural District will be decked out with red, white, and blue for Independence Day! The 4th of July Parade and Festival is one of the largest events of the summer, and last year it attracted thousands of attendees! This year, the Bill Riley Talent Competition will take place on Main Street and Burnett Avenue from 9 to 11 a.m. on the 4th. The winners of this competition move on to the big stage at the Iowa State Fair. Who knows, you might be watching this year’s State Fair winner perform right here in Ames!

Firefly Country Nights

Get your cowboy boots on and head to downtown Ames on July 17 for a night full of country music. The Firefly Country Nights will star Brothers Osborne along with special guests and Nashville recording artists, Adley Stump, Forgotten Highway, and Diana Upton-Hill, plus local favorite Danny Grause. Gates open at 2 p.m. so come on down and get those cowboy boots a-tappin’ to a full night of rockin’ good music!

Central Iowa Symphony Concert Series

The Central Iowa Symphony 2016-2017 concert series will be performing five amazing concerts all conducted by the talented Eric L. McIntyre. The first concert of the season is the Summer Pops Concert which will be held at Bandshell Park in Ames on August 4, beginning at 8 p.m. Get ready for a night of music under the stars! Maximum Ames Music Festival

The Maximum Ames Music Festival is a four day music festival that begins on September 15 and goes through the 18th. The festival emphasizes local talent with over 70 acts from Iowa and combines these local acts with outstanding regionally, nationally, and internationally renowned talent for over 100 musical acts performing during the festival.

MusicWalk

MusicWalk is a Main Street Cultural District event featuring musicians paired with businesses as well as artists performing on the sidewalks of Main Street. This event will allow you to experience the many things Main Street has to offer as the district comes to life with music, vendors and more! This musical event also features sidewalk cafes, specifically set up for the event. Bring your family and friends to the MusicWalk on September 29 and enjoy outdoor dining, shopping, and music!

Live Music at Snus Hill

There’s nothing better than sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful summer weather with some wine or beer and, of course, listening to some live music. Check out Snus Hill every Friday night from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. and Sunday night from 2 – 5 p.m.

Live Music at Hotel Pattee

Relax in the beautiful lobby at Hotel Pattee and take in the talents of Iowa musicians Friday and Saturday nights from 7 to 10 p.m.  Make it a date night and come early for dinner at David’s Milwaukee Diner located inside Hotel Patee or stay late and reserve a room at this historic hotel.

Live at the Crib  

Spend a relaxing afternoon at Prairie Moon, a family owned and operated winery in Ames, Iowa. The pizza oven will be hot and ready for tasty creations, grab a glass of sangria, wine or beer and enjoy live music out by the crib. It’s the perfect way to end your weekends this summer. The Live at the Crib concert series are on Sunday nights from 3-6 p.m. through the end of September.
