2016 USA Wrestling Olympic Trials, Iowa City April 9-10 The road to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympic Games goes through Iowa City. Hundreds of world-class male and female athletes will compete for Team USA spots in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.
Harlem Globetrotters at Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines April 10 The famed basketball team's 90th season includes more than 320 games in North America alone! A star-studded roster will have fans on the edge of their seats to witness the ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that thrills fans of all ages.
Earth Day Celebration, Okoboji April 15 Celebrate Earth Day at the Dickinson County Nature Center. Take a walk through the prairie and hear from some famed Iowa conservationists while sampling local beer and wine. Activities available for kids as well.
Kites Over Hoover Park, West Branch April 23 Free, family event includes children's games and races, a candy drop, an appearance by Benjamin Franklin, kite flying and spectacular kite stunts by the 180 Go! Kite Performance Team. A kite vendor will be onsite - or bring your own favorite kite to fly. Weather permitting, the 100-foot big kites will be back again. [Fun fact: April is National Kite Month.]
Maifest, Amana Colonies April 30-May 1 A full weekend of activities! Festivities kick off with a parade on April 30. "Art in the Barn" showcases local and regional artists' work for viewing and purchase. Enjoy potato pancakes, brats, beer and more. And what's Maifest without Maipole Dancers? Catch several performances throughout the event.
