There’s no place like home…and by home I am referring to home basketball games at Darby Gymnasium on the Grinnell College campus. When we moved to Grinnell a few years ago, I often joked to family and friends that we became season ticket holders for Grinnell College basketball games. The best part is – you can too! Admission to games is FREE – it’s a great way to be entertained during the cold Iowa winter.
The men’s basketball team is averaging 118 points per game this season, with their usual up tempo 3-point shooting and full-court press style of play. The men’s team has set numerous NCAA scoring records and several players have led the nation in scoring or assists. Jack Taylor broke an NCAA scoring record when he scored 138 points in a single game in the fall of 2012. He scored 109 points in a game one year later to become the first player in NCAA history to have two 100-point games. Jack is a senior this year so you still have time to watch him play.
The best thing is that he’s not the only shooter – all of the players shoot three pointers, making for fast-paced, high-scoring games that are a blast to watch. And you just never know – you might even witness the team shattering another record. You have four more opportunities to catch the Pioneer men’s and women’s basketball teams in action at Darby Gymnasium in Grinnell – come join us!
