"You’re Going to Make This Iowa Thing Happen"
That was the first line I wrote on my blog in July, 2014 on a coffeehouse patio in Iowa City’s Northside. The Iowa “thing” did happen. Big time! The Iowa Gallivant started out as a little summer project for me and the kids. A little day trip there, a visit to the farmers market here, and photo-op at the state fair to top it off.
Well, we hit the Iowa traveling jackpot and before we knew it, Team Goodvin was off and gallivanting all over the Cornbelt. The last year has been mixed with discovery, family outings, reconnecting, gastro touring, brewery hunting and a lot of miles put on the family grocery-getter. What a great year it’s been, Iowa.
My family and I have learned more about this place we call home over the past 12 months then I did the last 30 years. We’re experiencing this state in a whole new way with every trip and observing our blog grow with every new post. One word describes our journey perfectly. Impressive. The Hawkeye State is one of the most impressive areas I can think of. I’ve lived in 8 different states and I feel the exploration bug hit more here than anywhere else. Since July of ’14 we have traveled to 23 counties and showcased dozens of towns. From RAGBRAI scouting to skydiving. From Amish suppers to small town bistros. From historic landmarks to modern developments that are shaping the future of Iowa.
We hope that you all enjoy The Iowa Gallivant as much as we love updating it. On behalf of The Iowa Gallivant and everyone in Team Goodvin, thank you! Let's do this, Iowa!
