The Amana Colonies are kicking off their main tourist season in a big way with “Take a Bite: A Three Day Food Festival” on April 21-23, 2017. Introduced last year, Take a Bite was a success and this year’s edition is bigger and better. Billed as 3 days of learning, demonstrations, sampling, and dining the schedule of events looks very flavorful.
Last year’s special diners were all sell outs so a few more have been added to the list that includes, a special Communal Era meal served at the only surviving communal kitchen, a Nouveau Amana Vintner’s Dinner featuring 5 courses inspired by old Colony favorites but updated and each course served with a local wine beautifully paired. European Specialties are being served at another meal where a chef from the Czech Republic will be on hand to discuss his creations. The 3 day event features 8 unique meals so everyone will find something of interest.
If you’re not looking for a sit down meal how about a Sampling Stroll? All three day’s you’ll be able to purchase a stroll card that gets you samples at 7 food and 8 beverage shops. Get you card punched at 4 of each and you’ll receive an Amana Colonies logo Pilsner Glass.
Maybe you’ve got a sweet tooth or just love coffee. The Saturday “Chocolate and Coffee in the Colonies” event maybe your favorite. Visit and have a sample at 5 shops that feature chocolate and/or coffee and you will be entered to win a gift basket full of each.
Did you ever wonder how to make your own sauerkraut or want to make your own beer pretzels? You can take a short class and learn the secrets of each or several other foods. The best part is you’ll sample what you make.
