We stretched and sweated, and the cool breeze from the lake breathed upon us as the sun rose on the horizon.
It was one of the most relaxing, beautiful experiences I’ve had on the Iowa Great Lakes.
Another morning, I woke up early to head to Ainsworth-Orleans Beach on the south shore of Big Spirit Lake to get some sunrise photos. The air was calm, the seagulls called to one another as they searched for breakfast. The sky shone pink and purple.
Yet again, it was an absolutely perfect way to begin the day.
So when we began planning our 2017 Dickinson County Nature Center programming and the idea for Beach Yoga at Ainsworth-Orleans Beach came up, I was super excited.
The Dickinson County Conservation Board is pleased to announce the first Beach Yoga classes 7 a.m. the first and third Wednesday in June, July and August at Ainsworth-Orleans Beach on the south shore of Big Spirit Lake.
All ages and levels of practice are invited to attend these events which will be taught with the YogaFit Training mindset.
Beach Yoga will cost $10 per person, and everyone should bring their own yoga mats. No registration is required.
Outdoor yoga will also be offered during the Nature Explorers and Young Naturalists programs for ages 6-9 and 10-12 this summer, a part of the bi-weekly summer series. Instructor Kelly Thelen will lead these programs to expose the next generation to this great way to get outside. The free Nature Explorers yoga program will be 10:30 a.m. July 20 and Young Naturalists will try it out 1 p.m. July 27 at the Dickinson County Nature Center in Okoboji.
