Forty years of the Glenn Miller Festival in Clarinda, Iowa! Where did the time go? We are excited to be hosting yet another wonderful festival celebrating the music and memory of Glenn Miller, America’s number one Big Band leader and Clarinda’s native son. We love the Big Bands that come from all over the United States and world to perform at the Festival. This year we have the Osaka Rakers Jazz Orchestra (Osaka Japan), the Toronto All-Star Big Band (Toronto, Canada), The Omaha Big Band (guess which state they’re from), and the Festival is just not complete without The World Famous (and world traveling) Glenn Miller Orchestra. However, there is more to see and do at the Festival. We like to think we have a little something for everyone.
For the foodies out there, we have you covered. The Festival starts with food! Join us for our kick-off picnic Thursday evening on the town square. Enjoy delicious local barbeque catered by Weinreich’s BBQ and scrumptious desert from our award winning restaurant, Down Right Delicious. There are plenty of other opportunities to sample our local cuisine. Saturday morning is the Big Band Breakfast. What better way to start the day than with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and a live Big Band Concert? Don’t forget to check one of our excellent local restaurants for supper or cocktails before our evening programs, and stick around for the Sunday finale concert to enjoy the best local ice cream around.
For the shopaholics we have plenty for you, too. Come early on Thursday to shop the Glenn Miller Vendor Fair on the town square. The square will be filled with unique vendors offering all kinds of food, wine, and one-of-a-kind items. You should save some time to visit the stores around our square too. Gifts, clothing, antiques, and more are all within walking distance of each other! Don’t miss the shopping opportunities at the Festival. We will have Glenn Miller Festival merchandise, Glenn Miller books, CDs, and a lot more so you can take home a memento of your visit to Clarinda!
Clarinda has a lot to offer. For museum lovers we have the Glenn Miller Birthplace Museum, the Nodaway Valley History Museum, and the newly opening Clarinda Carnegie Art Museum. History, music, and art all within two miles of each other. You can’t beat that! If history isn’t your thing, don’t fret. Golfing, hiking, wineries, and more are just a short drive away.
