Revel in Relaxed Dining at Restauration in Decorah

Restauration, inside the historic Hotel Winneshiek in downtown Decorah, is a wonderful place to grab a bite and just relax. Priding themselves on top-notch offerings and local ingredients, Restauration provides a quality dining experience at any time of the day or week. I visited around noon recently and I found that it has that unique blend of casual elegance. As I was there on a Saturday, the brunch menu was being served from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. I decided on light lunch fare of a mixed greens salad with Caesar dressing, but the options were many. They had breakfast-type entrees on the menu, such as orange ricotta pancakes served with fresh berries and honey butter and a mushroom and bacon omelet with Gouda and Polashek’s bacon. The classic Winn burger, available in a half-pound variety for those with a fierce appetite, is also available during brunch. For those chicken aficionados, try the Winneshiek club with grilled chicken and bacon and house-made aioli. Add a fresh-squeezed lemonade or fresh-squeezed orange juice to your meal, or perhaps a steaming hot cup of fresh coffee.  They also serve decadent pecan caramel rolls and like to advertise them as the best you can find in Decorah.

In the evenings, Restauration provides chef-inspired fare all within a small-town setting. The grilled salmon with red pepper butter and freshly grated horseradish might be your palate-pleasing dish after a day of shopping downtown. Perhaps the smoked turkey fettuccine is the plate that tops your list. If you wish to enjoy slightly lighter fare, three variations of their Caesar salad are available. If you’re celebrating a special occasion, you might want to order a bottle of red and watch the sun fade on Water Street as you linger in the inviting atmosphere.

You might just decide to stay the night at the Hotel Winn after a lovely meal. Originally built in 1904-1905, it was lovingly rehabilitated and restored back to its former glory and opened for guests in April of 2000. It features Queen Deluxe Rooms with one queen bed all the way to the Presidential Suite with a king bed, kitchenette, and whirlpool tub. So, however you want to stay, Hotel Winn has a room to suit your style. Full room service from Restauration is available if you want to luxuriate in the Presidential Suite rather than making your way to the restaurant.

Whether you are visiting Winneshiek County for a day or for a week, Restauration at the Hotel Winn is a great place to enjoy fine dining in a casual atmosphere. If you are staying overnight, the accommodations at the Hotel Winn will let you enjoy a memorable trip. Don’t hesitate to visit this historic Decorah treasure and make a little modern-day history of your own.

The restaurant sounds fantastic, and here is so much to experience in Decorah and Luther. Why not coordinate a stay at the Hotel Winnieshiek to take in the great art galleries at Luther the same weekend the college has won of its unbelievable choral concerts?
