Meet the "Cake Lady" at Farmers Market in Decorah!

Did you know that Winneshiek Farmers Market in Decorah has cake? Baker Sara Vagts from Timber Ridge Gardens Greenhouse and Bakery from West Union has been coming to both Wednesday afternoon (3-6) and Saturday morning (8-11) Winneshiek Farmers Market in Decorah for fifteen years. And after you taste her delicious cakes you will know why she is so keeps coming back!

Sara is known around the farmers market as “The Cake Lady.” She makes 15 different tasty flavors of artisan angel food cakes, all made from scratch. Once you try one, you will want to try them all!  She also has a large array of produce. You won’t want to miss her stand at the market.  Besides her wonderful cakes, she makes mini-donuts and gluten free baked goods. Her  fresh fruits and vegetables are chemical free. Right now she also has beautiful dried natural decorations that would enhance any home. Get them before they are gone! She also has homemade noodles that would be great for chicken noodle soup. She has both wide and narrow noodles to chose from,

The market continues until the end of October, but don't worry if you have a craving for some cake. Sara takes phone orders year round and delivers once a week to Decorah all year round. Her phone number is 563-422-5844.

If you are new to the farmers market, here are a few tips that might be of help to you. Bring cash because many vendors don’t have access to electronic card readers to process your debit or credit cards. Come early, scope out the deals and when the bell rings (no early sales) you can get what you want before they run out. Stock up in whatever is in season, which is usually a bargain because it’s so abundant. Be “green” and carry a tote to put your purchases in. If you need to run errands after the market, put a cooler in the car so you aren’t leaving fresh produce in a hot or cold car.

Farmer’s Markets are great for the whole family. You get homegrown, home-baked products that is fresh, delicious and nutritious! Besides crafts like jewelry and decorative items, you can get a poem made by a local poet on Saturdays at the Winneshiek Farmers Market! So much to see and do, that I'm sure you will come back again and again!  And did I mention they have CAKE??
