Iowa City Prepares for Annual Book Festival

The seventh annual Iowa City Book Festival will be opening on October 4th. Iowa City, which is one of only 20 UNESCO Cities of Literature in the world and the only City of Literature in the United States, hosts the festival as a “six-day celebration of books, reading, and writing.”

Festival-goers can enjoy readings, discussions, and even demonstrations from a variety of authors -- including several bestsellers. More than 100 authors will be featured this year, including:

Activities will begin with a reading of Dostoyevsky's “Crime and Punishment” at the Old Capital at 9:00am.

A book fair will be taking place on the Ped Mall downtown on Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Vendors will have items available for all ages, including children’s books, local publications, zines, and novels.

Community partnerships and volunteers help sustain this annual Iowa City tradition. The festival will continue taking volunteer applications until the day of the event.

For a complete schedule of events and a list of featured authors, information can be found on the festival’s website.
