5 Ways to Ring in the Holidays in Council Bluffs

Twinkling lights, gingerbread displays, gift wrap, richly decorated trees-- now’s the time to fill your calendar with these Council Bluffs hometown holiday favorites

1.) Better get to Bayliss:

Bayliss Park glows throughout the season. See the dazzling display of lights from mid-November to January at First Ave and Pearl St. For more info, call 712.328.4650 or visit them online

2.) Delight in the Downtown:

The 100 Block of Broadway is framed with lighted holiday trees along the historic block. It’s a perfect place to celebrate the season through the New Year. For more info, call 712.396.2470 or visit Council Bluffs Downtown on the web

3.) Christmas at Kanesville:

Kanesville Tabernacle is once again filled with amazing gingerbread creations. This log building is a replica of one that once stood here centuries ago, and makes for a unique setting for holiday gingerbread houses, churches, boats, and more displayed replicas here. Admission is free, and the Tabernacle is open from 9:30am until dusk through December 31st at 222 E Broadway. For more info, call 712.322.0500 or click here

4.) Wrap it Up at Union Pacific Railroad Museum:

Union Pacific Railroad Museum is here to help with your holiday gift wrapping.  Through their “Wrap it UP!” program, the museum will make gift wrapping easy from 11am -1 pm, December 10th and 17th. And all for a free-will donation! Museum volunteers will wrap the gifts and eliminate a holiday hassle from your to-do list. The museum is located at 200 Pearl St. For more info, call 712.329.8307 or check them out on the internet.  www.uprrmuseum.org.

5.) Have a Historic Holiday:

The Historic General Dodge House is a hub for the Christmas season again this year. This 14-room Victorian mansion is loaded with decorated trees and Victorian baubles. Special events are scheduled throughout December. They include Santa visits, family nights, and of course-- numerous photo opportunities.  The house is located at 605 3rd St and is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm and Sunday from 1 - 5. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $3 for students. The Dodge House is open on Christmas Eve until 2pm, and is closed on Christmas. On New Year’s Eve, the House is open until 2pm. For more info, call 712.322.2406 or visit DodgeHouse.org.
