The Amana Colonies, located east of Des Moines, are great to visit and check out the original architectural designs and lifestyle of the 18th century. The colonies were founded more than a century ago along the Iowa River. The scenic setting and the fertile soil attracted the settlers to this place in the 18th century. Amana is a really beautiful historic landmark in the United States with many shopping and dining options along with unique antiques shops, and fascinating museums. The restaurants provide mouthwatering foods for the travelers. The arts center is quite famous for its German collection. The most famous location in the Amana Colonies is the Woolen mill. Woolen mill is a fantastic place for getting blankets and wholesale wool. The quality of wool is unmatched within all of the United States.
Amana’s Woolen Mill is an important part of Amana history. In 18th century Germany, Amana ancestors founded the "Church of the True Inspiration." Religious freedom was at the core of the Church. Before they settled in Amana Colonies, they had experienced persecution for more than 100 years.
The sect recognized a settlement near Buffalo, New York in 1842 but as the progress of Buffalo invaded upon their insular community, the Inspirationists moved west, and in 1855, settled in eastern Iowa. The community originally owned Amana Colonies. People worked in mills and took tasks at the fields and kitchen so that the colony can live a communal life. However, in 1932, the people of the Colonies decided to end this method of life.
Baby blankets that are made at the Woolen mill are incredibly soft and durable. These baby blankets make the perfect addition to any nursery. Each blanket is made from 100% cotton with matching nylon satin binding. Embroider the baby's name and birth date on any blanket to make it extra special.
You will find exceptional handmade gifts and quality home furnishings that you could pass down among different age groups. The architecture around the colonies is eye catching. Travelers can indulge themselves in 18th century German design with the background of the scenic Iowa River.
Amana Colonies make a great family vacation spot and must be on every bucket list. Enjoy the sightseeing.
