Halloween is right around the corner and what better way to start off this eerie season then by heading to Ottumwa to Halloweenapalooza, Iowa’s ONLY Horror Film Festival presented by Prescribed Films. The Festival is on Saturday, October 1 at the Hotel Ottumwa, a perfect location because rumor has it the Hotel has been known to be home to some mysterious paranormal experiences.
Writer/Actor/Director/Podcaster Justin Beahm will set the mood for the event by reading chilling stories in the ballroom from noon to 1:00 PM. Films will begin showing at noon and will run through 8:00 PM. Over forty short and feature films from around the world will be showing in two different viewing rooms. The Feature Presentation for the evening was filmed right here in Iowa. The award-winning documentary by Kelly & Tammy Rundle explores the mystery behind the 1912 Villisca axe murders. There will be plenty to do and see at the festival with Halloween vendors, Q & A sessions with horror film bloggers and TV show hosts, a tattoo artist, fall beer bar featuring Halloween inspired brews, hypnotist Ray Thompson, a Zombie Walk and Zombie costume contest, film awards, live music, trivia, and that is not all! The brave and curious will be able to participate in a ghost hunt with Iowa Paranormal, a team of professional ghost hunters, to the Bloomfield Elementary School from 9:00 PM – 2:00 AM. For those who would rather not encounter spirit, everybody’s favorite audience participation movie, Rocky Horror Picture Show, will start at midnight in the Hotel Ballroom. Bring your own props for two hours of Rice throwing, newspaper wearing, flashlight lighting and more! The Hotel Ottumwa does have discounted room rates available for those traveling from afar or for those who just want to be a part of the fun all night long.
