Find the Perfect Christmas Tree

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree… how lovely are your branches.

Picture the perfect Christmas tree. Is it a fake tree with color-coordinated sparkling bulbs? Or is it a real tree with ornaments that hold special meanings? For me, it’s a pungent pine-smelling tree with homemade ornaments from my husband’s and my childhoods.

This year, Hunter Bros. Tree Farm in Chariton supplied my Christmas centerpiece. I hopped out of the car on a bone-chilling winter evening with my husband in tow, and set off to find the perfect tree. After an hour of scrupulously judging rows of trees, we found the perfect one: a four-foot-tall-plump-and-slightly-bald-in-two-spots tree that beckoned me. It was beautiful and perfect for our small living room.

My husband quickly swiped the price tag off the tree, so the Grinch couldn’t slither off with it, and took it to the barn. He handed the tag to the owner, Nick Hunter, who hustled out of the barn, grabbed his saw and headed out to the forest of Christmas.

While sawing, we asked Nick what his favorite part of the Christmas tree craziness is. His response was quick and heartfelt.  He enjoys seeing families come back every year to find their perfect tree, much like we did. After only moving the toothed saw back and forth nine times, the tree was down and off Nick went with our tree.  My husband followed and helped tie it to the top of our car while I migrated to the barn to pay for our glorious find.

I caught a twinkle out of the corner of my eye and spied a plethora of beautifully decorated wreaths for sale. Their wreaths, made from the trimmings of trees, are as popular as the tall Christmas fixtures in everyone’s living rooms. The wreaths were perfectly adorned with berries and ribbon. I HAD to have one for my front door. I picked out a medium-sized wreath with gold berries and a glittery bow.

My husband, needing to warm up his hands (and heart) after his escapade with mounting our tree on the car, took advantage of the free, hot apple cider. After finishing his steaming cup, we started the journey home so we could decorate this year’s piece of Christmas perfection.

Visit Hunter Bros. Tree Farm to get your perfect tree to make your memories around.
