SkyBridge is a symbol celebrating the Davenport’s river. The Davenport Skybridge is a cable-stayed bridge in downtown Davenport. The bridge is an attractive tourist spot for families and friends while serving as a secure way to cross the city highway.
The bridge was designed with 228 LED fixtures that change color patterns. There are also 8,036 individual lights. The colors change randomly and are a great treat to witness from inside the bridge. The color can go from red to green in matter of seconds and the transition is quite spectacular, especially when viewed from inside of the bridge.
The Skybridge is 50 feet tall and 575 feet long. The cable-stayed bridge was designed by Holabird & Root and Neumann Monson, P.C. and was opened to the public in 2005.
Beautiful Night View:
During nighttime, while you are inside the Skybridge, the outside world is not visible because of the reflections caused by the LED lights. There are lookout platforms at night, which allow you to see specific areas. The lights of the Centennial Bridge and the Rock Island District lights can be viewed from these platforms. The light color changes can reflect different moods and can enthrall children and adults alike.
The Skybridge wears a dazzling green color when viewed from outside. Green is the native color of the glass inside. The Davenport Skybridge provides a stunning view of beautiful sunsets and sunrises across the Mississippi River. During the daytime, the bridge provides a better view of the downtown area and the dazzling Dillon fountain. At the south end, there is an observation deck with a view of the Mississippi river, where many functions take place during the warmer months.
